Pomegranate (Punica granatum) has been cultivated in sub-tropical parts of Europe, Asia and North Africa for thousands of years. They are commonly viewed as a symbol of hope and abundance and have been used traditionally by many cultures around the world due to their numerous health benefits.

Scientists have researched the effects of supplementing pomegranate following intense workouts. A 2016 study found that supplementation of pomegranate accelerated recovery of muscle damage and soreness after Olympic-weightlifting sessions performed by elite athletes. The conclusions made by the scientists in this study stated that natural pomegranate increases an individuals capacity to adhere to an intensive training program. They also recommended that elite weightlifters should use natural pomegranate during intensive training programs and competition to accelerate their muscle recovery.
