The Cupuaçu tree is from the Theobroma family (Theobroma grandiflorum) and is a close relative of the Cacao tree, which is the source of all cacao and chocolate products. Known in the Amazon as the "pharmacy in a fruit", Cupuaçu has mood, energy and concentration enhancing benefits. These benefits come from its unique natural compound called theacrine, which is structurally similar to caffeine but is not addictive and won't cause the 'jitters'. The concentration of theacrine, antioxidants, flavonoids and polyphenols in cupuaçu also provides support for the immune system. Cupuaçu has a slightly sweet tropical taste, combining elements of banana, pear and pineapple.
Cupuaçu has many health promoting benefits due to its impressive nutritional profile which includes phytonutrients, antioxidants, and numerous vitamins and minerals. One of the most beneficial components of cupuaçu is its high levels of theacrine which is structurally similar to caffeine but provides a boost of energy without the negative consequences of caffeine that some people suffer.
