Acerola (Malpighia glabra L.), is native to tropical and subtropical America and the West Indies. Acerola cherries grow on small trees or bushy shrubs, are bright red or yellow-orange. The fruit pulp has a sweet aroma and taste but is acidic. Known for being a rich source of Vitamin C, Acerola contains significantly more Vitamin C than oranges, as well as containing bioflavonoids like kaempferol, quercetin and rutin, which are required for the absorption of Vitamin C in the body.
