WHAT IS IT?
Peruvian amaranth is one of the world’s oldest known food crops, dating back 8,000 years. It was a staple food of the Aztecs who called it the “golden grain” and is now used in many cultural dishes around the world. Matakana SuperFoods Organic Amaranth is grown in its native habitat Peru. Packed with protein and fibre, Peruvian amaranth is a premium grain with a high nutritional profile.It has a mild nutty flavour and crunchy texture, and is a versatile ingredient that can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes.

Rinse well in water before cooking. For every cup of amaranth, use 2 ½ cups of water, vegetable or bone broth. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for approximately 20 minutes until grains are fluffy and water is absorbed. Use as a delicious porridge or in stews and casseroles. Like popcorn, amaranth can also be popped for a healthy snack.
